The Reluctant Celebrities

The Focus...

A verse in the Bible that has been "on simmer" with me, for quite some time, is the Message Version of Luke 6:26:

"There's trouble ahead when you live only for the approval of others, saying what flatters them, doing what indulges them. Popularity contests are not truth contests—look how many scoundrel preachers were approved by your ancestors! YOUR TASK IS TO BE TRUE; NOT POPULAR."

Then, as I was doing more and more research on how Christ lived his life, Matthew 13:10-13(NKJV) began to illuminate:

"And the disciples came and said to Him, 'Why do You speak to them in parables?'

He answered and said to them, 'Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.'"

And then...the epiphany.

The more I read about the works that Christ performed, the more I saw him do something extraordinary for someone only to say, "Please don't tell anyone", the more it hit me: Christ was the ULTIMATE RELUCTANT CELEBRITY.

*Not eager to becoming famous.

*Not willing to have his works overshadow his Father's (and ours).

*Resisting the need (and urge) to be in the spotlight.

And yet, he was light. In darkness. He was going to shine, anyway.

John 8:31(NKJV) tells us that if we abide in Yehoshua, we are his disciples. We are the followers of his path. Proverbs 27:2(NKJV) advises, "Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips."

There are a lot of ways to get press for being famous. For a lot of things.

This page is different.

This page is devoted to spotlight the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Modern-day RELUCTANT CELEBRITIES, who, in their own right, are doing just what Christ did:

Reaching the world by...

*Speaking in Parables

*Hanging out with Sinners

*Challenging the Pharisees

*Showing the Love of God

*Bucking the System...

EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

Over time, God's timetable, you will see singers, authors, dancers, designers, entrepreneurs, poets, artists, writers, CEOs, founders of non-profits, rappers, musicians, producers, filmmakers...it kinda runs the gamut featured on this page. The three things that they all will have in common is:

They love God.
The are disciples of Christ.
And you didn't really see them coming...

Because they actually live a Christlike life.

*Sinners don't scare them. They like them, actually.

*They know how to translate Scripture. Creatively.

*They have a growing platform.

*They embrace their gifts and talents and use them for the greater good.

*They are doing what they do, even at the expense of being misunderstood...of being criticized...of *not fitting into the traditional church mold*.

JUST AS CHRIST DID.
